The way people view the world are influenced by many different things but it all comes back to their culture. most people think and view things based by their culture. Some may say they view things just because thats how they view it and it has nothing to do with their culture. These people just don’t understand. I believe that a person's culture affects the way they view others and the world because their culture is their normality of thinking. When someone sees someone doing something they aren’t accustomed to they will think that person is weird or different. This is all because what they are doing is apart of their culture and not your’s therefor you view them as different. In “My Mother Pieced Quilts” the author Teresa Palomo Acosta views quilts in two different ways . “They were just meant as covers” is one of the lines from Acosta. This line tells me that she just views the quilt as any old blanket and it doesn't have any significance. However later on in the story she switches up the view point by telling us that the quilt is made up of all these great fabrics the reminds her of great memories. She gave us two different viewpoint from two different cultures. A similar thing happened in “Everyday Use” by Alice walker. The story is about two sisters from the south. One of the sister later on moves to New York. The one sister comes back to visit and wants to take the quilt her grandmother made for her and her sister. Here lies the problem. Living in New York changed the sister’s culture. She wants the as a trophy from her past while growing up. Her sister on the other hand just wants it to use as a blanket to keep warm at night. A big part of culture is ethnicity. People lable people all the time because of their ethnic background. “An Indian Father's Plea” is an argument given by a native american named Robert Lake.”He is 5 years old, in kindergarten, and i can't understand why he is already labeled a slow learner” is one of his evidence to support his claim. By his son’s teacher labeling his son a slow learner based upon the fact he is a native american is proof that people are liable solely upon their ethnic background. People are labeled and viewed differently than other based on by their culture.People’s culture can be so similar but they would still view each other differently.Author Pat Mora is of an American-Mexican culture. In one of her poems “Legal Alien” she uses this line “their eyes say you may speak spanish but you not like me” She talking about other mexicans viewing her as if she isn’t mexican because of her american half. This is a great example of two people of similar cultures viewing each other differently. I understand that some people may think differently on this topic than me. They may think that the way they view is because thats how they view them. Some people may think of people no differently than another because of their culture.Everyone has their own way of thinking when it comes to culture. Let’s face it everyone views, judges, and understands people differntly. It may be becasue of their culture or it may be just the way they think.I belive culture is the main factor when it comes to veiwing the world and others.
